Dan BMestinon or pyridostigmine
There has been discussion on the Facebook group about pyridostigmine (brand name Mestinon) and I think it should be kept here on the forum as things are very hard to find on FB.
Pyridostigmine is an FDA-approved, prescription-available drug that is approved and used to treat myasthenia gravis. The drug is an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. In very simple, non-medical terms, that means the drug allows acetylcholine (ACh) to remain longer than it normally would.
A doctor determined that pyridostigmine might provide symptomatic relief of KD. I emphasize it is not a cure, but might be a symptom reliever only. Several men on the KD Facebook group have reported positive results.
I emphasize that pyridostigmine for KD has NOT been tested in a large-scale clinical trial and side effects are possible. Pyridostigmine is FDA-approved for myasthenia gravis but is NOT approved for KD. Talk to your doctor before using.
Here are some case reports that reference pyridostigmine in KD.
