Fasting and autophagy
There was a discussion at the KD group on FB about autophagy stimulated by fasting, and its role in disposing of misfolded proteins. There has been some research into Huntington's Disease but not KD yet. Here are a few articles on the topic. http://www.bbc.com/news/health-44005092 http://www.cimr.cam.ac.uk/rese...tigators/rubinsztein http://www.neuroscience.cam.ac.../profile.php?dcr1000

In a mouse model of Huntington's Disease, it was shown that limiting food intake to six hours a day, and fasting the other 18 hours, was beneficial in eliminating harmful proteins. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321136.php

Great posts Dan!
For those who don't know here's the Facebook group Dan referenced:
Kennedy's Disease Patient grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/1603870736575430/
I think Facebook is a good platform for casual conversations and this FB group has value for its larger number of active participants.
But for conversations with lasting relevance I prefer the structure of forums with categories and indexes of topics with subject lines and better searching. Unfortunately this forum software is old and somewhat orphaned by the passing of previous administrators, Terry Waite and Bruce Gaughran. Bruce gave me the administrators password before he passed but I've primarily been using it just to delete spam. There are other forum software options that might be better and increase participation here although I'm not an expert in this.
Not to hijack this post, as I'm extremely interested in the role IF plays with autophagy, but...
I definitely prefer this forum - I deleted my facebook account 5 years ago because I could not support them morally, and did not want my social interactions manipulated and monetized. I've toyed with starting a new account so I can participate in the KD groups on there, but the thought of starting an account with a company I find reprehensible to share some of my most personal medical information sits very poorly with me.
This is not a post advocating migrating away from FB as I'm just one person and it seems to be working for many, but perhaps more encouraging of an update to an independent discussion forum to run in parallel? Just one mans opinion. And for what its worth I kind of like the retro feel of this site... Anyhow please carry on with the relevant topic.

Sorry for the hijack Dan, but thanks Ben. I appreciate your objections to FB and feel somewhat awkward pointing people to the KD groups on FB. I only use FB for the KD groups as it is important to me to hear from as many others with KD as possible.

As far as FB goes, there is also a Canadian group with a lot of overlap. Sometimes something new. I am on both for that. For those who object to FB in principle, I agree with you! The solution is to not post photos, nor complete information on your profile... keep it to a minimum just to get the account up. And do not post personal details you would not want an insurance company to see, or that you would bot tell the whole world... Don't use an iOs app, just go in through a browser, and use an ad-blocker wherever you can,
