The trial just started and won't be concluded for two years. There are some common sense steps one can take to help minimize the impact of KD on your life. (As always, consult with your doctor before adding an exercise program to your routine.) - Manage your weight. The heavier you are the more difficult it is to remain mobile. Eat the right type of foods to help maintain strength and keep your weight in line. It is especially important to watch you sugar intake. - Exercise ... perform smart exercises every day to keep the motor neurons and muscle groups stimulated. Do not exercise to excess where you feel fatigued or are in pain. Start slowly and gradulally build up to a comfortable level. Include aerobic type exercises to work the heart and lungs. See the Smart Exercise Guide on our web site. As you become older and can no longer comfortably perform certain exercises, substitute other exercises. But, keep exercising. - Breathe correctly ... it might sound like common sense, but practicing deep breathing every day is very helpful. It will help oxyginate and clean your system as well as keep your brain stimulated. Learning to breathe correctly is something that would seem like we would all do, but unfortunately, the less mobile we are the less we stimualte the lungs. - Find the right hobby that will stimulate the mind as well as works your hands/fingers/etc. Experiment with different hobbies until you find one you enjoy and want to do regularly. |
