I was diagnosed with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH aka 'Fatty Liver Disease') about 8 years ago. Fortunately, no liver damage and/or cirrhosis has occurred and, other than a slightly elevated liver enzyme count, I have had no issues. Recently I read an article that stated that an unusually high number of people with KD also have incidences of Fatty Liver Disease to where they now feel there is a relation. For the life of me I can't remember where I read it. Was I dreaming or has anybody else come across this?

There is a study planned at the NIH concerning fatty liver in men with SBMA. Details at http://clinicalstudies.info.ni...i?A_2014-N-0099.html

The liver study was discussed by Dr. Chris Grunseich in one of the weekly chats, transcribed here: http://www.kennedysdisease.org...te-with-dr-grunseich

and on Bruce's blog: http://kennedysdisease.blogspo...ion-in-patients.html

Interestingly enough, fatty liver is also mentioned as being associated with SBMA in this 1995 research paper, so it's been known for quite a while: http://www.med.nagoya-u.ac.jp/...5834/NJ580303095.pdf The reference is Nagoya J. Med. Sci. 58:95-106, 1995.

Thanks Dan! Wouldn't you know, I was away most of last month and didn't go on Bruce's site (which I usually check weekly) and sure enough, there it's mentioned. I knew I didn't dream it Smiler. Sorry about that. Thanks for the links.

When I was at the NIH for the conclusion of my participation in the exercise study, they did an ultrasound and MRI on my liver, saying that they were looking into liver disease in KD patients. My enzyme level was also slightly elevated, but I am now watching it closer.
