Registered: 08-10-2014 Posts: 2 | I am a Native and my lineage carrying the KD gene is Native American. I have traced it back to a Potawatami Woman who came from around Minnesota possible. She travelled north into Canada in the winter back in the late 1800's or early 1900's. Wondering if any other Natives around the great lakes are affected. |
Registered: 10-22-2005 Posts: 142 | My neurologist was doing work on Minimata disease in NW Ontario, and found a population of persons with KD on the reserve there. My impression is that the man on whom Dr. Kennedy first described KD was a Metis (mixed blood) from Minnesota. I am Metis; the native side originated in NW Ontario. So, yes, there is a native component from this area. |
